About RadOrris

I'm Dr Shelan Mahmood, an HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist and certified Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA), Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA), and Medical Physics Expert (MPE), with over 20 years' experience across the NHS, academia and industry.

I spent nearly two decades in the NHS, most recently leading the Radionuclide Physics Team at the Regional Radiation Protection Service (RRPPS) at University Hospitals Birmingham, alongside senior clinical and research roles at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Queen Alexandra Hospital. I've also taught at postgraduate level, including as Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta, where I helped shape the MSc Medical Physics programme and taught the first generations of medical physicists in Malta, and have taught on MSc Medical Physics programmes at UCL and the University of Liverpool.

In September 2025, I founded RadOrris to bring that experience to a wider range of organisations beyond the NHS, across healthcare, academia, research and industry, UK-based and happy to travel. Starting my own consultancy also gave me the flexibility to balance client work with family responsibilities closer to home, while continuing to grow both personally and professionally by working across a broader range of sectors.

Alongside RPA, RWA and MPE consultancy and training, I continue to work as Lead MPE for clinical trials involving the use of ionising radiation, having supported over 500 commercial and academic clinical research studies, and remain an active contributor to the profession through SRP, EFOMP, IAEA and IRPA.
